Agartala, Sep 18 (UNI) Tribal Welfare Minister of Tripura Mevar Kumar Jamatia argued that propaganda against rubber cultivation in the state made an adverse impact on the production of latex in the state that indirectly affected rural economy.
Though Tripura had the potential to produce raw latex and add value to its economy, due to inadequate production of latex and decline in rubber cultivation, the sector which had the promise to put the state on a strong footing economically, has been languishing, Jamatia stated.
“There is no solid proof that rubber cultivation is bad for the environment. But, it is a proven fact that it can be a steady source of income and livelihood, and boost for the state economy,” Jamatia opined, added that there was scientific proof that rubber absorbs carbon dioxide and cleans the environment.
