New Delhi, Aug 17 (UNI) Congress leader and AICC General secretary incharge for Uttar Pradesh East Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Saturday questioned the arrests of Jammu and Kashmir PCC chief Ghulam Ahmed Mir and party spokesperson Ravinder Sharma and leaders of many Kashmir based parties, including former Chief Ministers Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti.
In a series of tweets, Priyanka, targetting the Narendra Modi government on the arrests, said,'On what grounds have Congress leaders in J& K been arrested? Is it a crime to speak to the media? It’s now 15 days since ex-CM’s who respected and abided by the Constitution of India just like our leaders, have been under arrest.
Even their families have not been allowed to communicate with them. Does the Modi-Shah Govt believe India is still a democracy?'
Priyanka's tweet came a day after her brother and former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi questioned the arrest of Congress leaders Ghulam Ahmed Mir and Ravinder Sharma in Jammu when they were about to address a press conference .
In a post on social media on Friday, Rahul Gandhi said, 'I strongly condemn the arrest of our JKPCC Chief Ghulam Ahmed Mir and spokesperson Ravinder Sharma in Jammu today. With this unprovoked action against a national political party, the Government has delivered democracy another body blow. When will this madness end?'
Senior congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad has also condemned the arrest of Mir and Sharma.
