Priyanka takes on Yogi govt over rising COVID-19 cases

New Delhi, Jul 13 (UNI) Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra here on Monday attacked Yogi Adityanath dispensation in handling COVID-19 situation in Uttar Pradesh saying despite stricter restrictions over the weekend, the cases continued to rise.
Sharing numbers, she said fresh COVID-19 cases on July 10, Friday were 1,347 while 1,403 on July 11, Saturday and 1,388 on July 12, Sunday.
The comments from the Ms Vadra, who is also the Congress general secretary for eastern UP came over the Yogi government latest decision to impose stricter restriction on weekends in an attempt to trim rise in COVID-19 cases.
"No one has understood the logic behind 'baby lockdown'. It is just an another mean to hide the failure," Ms Vadra wrote in hindi on her twitter handle.
The Congress leader termed weekend restrictions as 'baby lockdown'.
Taking a jibe over the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the UP, Ms Vadra shared a hindi couplet: "The ailment increased whenever medicine was given."
Uttar Pradesh, India's densely populated state, has so far recorded 36,476 novel coronavirus cases which includes 934 deaths.
Meanwhile, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi posted a COVID-19 graph on his twitter handle depicting steep rise in India and questioned, "India at good position in #COVID19 battle?
The query by Mr Gandhi was apparently a counterattack to Union Home Minister Amit Shah recent statement that India was in a 'good position' in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.
The graph posted by the Congress leader showed seven-day moving average of daily coronavirus cases in the US, India, South Korea and New Zealand. The US and India had an inclining trend. The ideal trend for any country would have been declining.
In his address to Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) on Sunday, Mr Shah had said, "We are at a good position in this coronavirus battle and will continue this fight with determination and there is no atmosphere
of fear. We have the passion to battle it and enthusiasm to defeat it (coronavirus)."
"The world is seeing that if a successful battle has been fought anywhere across the globe against the coronavirus it is India under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi," Mr Shah had added.
India in current the third worst-affected country with over 8.7 lakh COVID-19 cases and around 23,000 deaths.
