Priyanka mocks govt on 'Modi hai to mumkin hai' slogan

Priyanka mocks govt on 'Modi hai to mumkin hai' slogan

New Delhi, Dec 14 (UNI) Attacking Narendra Modi government on a number of issues, including the state of economy and women's safety, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Saturday said it's time to "rise up else our Constitution will be destroyed".

"The country will be divided, we have to save our country", Ms Vadra said at the Congress' 'Bharat Bachao Rally' at Ramlila Maidan where thousands of party workers gathered to hear the party leadership, including Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.

Referring to the new Citizenship Bill, the Congress general secretary said, "what is this country? This is a country born of a movement that used the power of non-violence and love to defeat the greatest conquerors of the time. This is a country of love, nonviolence and brotherhood".

She also warned that the cost of silence of the ruling dispensation's policies will result in the destruction of country's constitution.

'I want to tell every citizen of this country - raise your voice. You love this country, become its voice. If we don’t raise our voice, stay back in the darkness of fear and lies even in these circumstances and stay quiet then our Constitution will be destroyed', she said.

Referring the woman who was allegedly set ablaze by her rapists in Unnao, Ms Priyanka criticised the Uttar Pradesh government and said the police's inaction led to the woman's death.

Taking on the Modi government over the economic slowdown, the Congress leader said, 'You can see everywhere that ‘Modi hai to mumkin hai’, but the reality is that if the BJP is there, it is possible to get onions at Rs 100 a kilo, if there is BJP, it is possible for unemployment to climb to its highest in 45 years, if there is BJP, it is possible for four crore jobs to be destroyed".

Addressing the gathering, former prime minister Dr Manmohan Singh said all the promises made by Modi government were false and people were misled.

"The promises that India’s economy touching 5 trillion dollar by 2024, besides doubling of farmers' income and generating employment for two crore youth each year have been proved false and the people were misled", Dr Singh said in his speech in Hindi.

Lashing out at Modi government, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath said, "Modi ji talks of nationalism. I challenge the BJP to name any freedom fighter of theirs. Congress has a history of sacrificing for the nation. They cannot teach us a lesson on nationalism".

Criticising the saffron party, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel said, "BJP only knows how to burn, to hurt and to divide. They want to set the country on fire but the Congress loyalists will not hesitate in laying down their lives for the nation".
