Priyanka ends her 'dharna' in Chunar, Cong to pay Rs 10 lakh to victims' kin

Mirzapur, Jul 20 (UNI) Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra ended her 'dharna' at the Chunar guest house after meeting members of few Sonbhadra firing victims' families on Saturday afternoon.

Holding the UP government responsible for the killing of the tribals, Ms Vadra announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh each to the kin of the victims.

"The government should provide Rs 25 lakh as compensation to each of the families of the deceased tribals. Besides, the guilty would be punished through fast track trial," she demanded while talking to the media.

The announcement to end her 'dharna' came after she met the family members of few victims at the guest house.

Meanwhile, the Congress leader, who is in Mirzapur since Friday afternoon, is likely to visit Kashi Vishwanath temple at Varanasi before leaving for New Delhi in the evening.
In Lucknow, new UP BJP president Swantrantra Deo Singh alleged that Ms Vadra was shedding crocodile tears and doing politics on the matter.

"Congress is responsible for the entire land dispute and now they are trying to take political mileage by doing politics over the dead people," Mr Singh told reporters here on Saturday.

He said that CM Yogi Adityanath had already announced action against the guilty and suspended the officials, adding that there was no delay in taking the action by the government.

"The Sonbhadra district authorities have already brought in the family members of the victims to meet Priyanka at Chunar guest house," Mr Singh said, adding, "Now, she should not wait for a minute and leave the place so that the authorities can work."
