Prisoners called off their agitation

Puducherry, Dec 12 (UNI)The prisoners at the central prison here who were on an indefinite fast since December 5 called off their agitation on Tuesday evening,the 7th day of their agitation.
They were protesting against the failure of the jail authorities to grant them parole.It was alleged that for some months, parole was not granted to the prisoners.
They called off the stir, following intervention from the judiciary and a judges delegation holding talks with them at the prison.Since, the government failed to take any action in the issue even after several prisoners were hospitalized as their condition deteriorated,judiciary intervened and a delegation of judges led by chief judge Dhanapal hold talks with the prisoners.During the course of talk,the judges assured to fulfill the genuine demands of the prisoners as per the law and assured to take up their parole issue with the Madras high court,if they give this in writing and ensure that they get parole.

Hyderabad, April 24 (UNI) The Election Commission of India (ECI) has issued a communication stipulating that every individual employed in any business, trade, industrial undertaking, or establishment, eligible to vote in elections to the House of the People or the Legislative Assembly of a State, shall be granted a paid holiday under Section 135 B of the Representation of People Act.
