Prez dissolves 16th Lok Sabha, NaMo re-elected  National Democratic Alliance chief, INC heads roll

New Delhi, May 25(UNI) Things fell in place.
President Ram Nath Kovind on Saturday dissolved the 16th Lok Sabha with immediate effect as Narendra Modi was unanimously elected as the Leader of the BJP parliamentary party and the National Democratic Alliance.
The President has accepted the advice of the Cabinet on May 24 and signed the order dissolving the 16th Lok Sabha in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by Sub-clause (b) of Clause (2) of Article 85 of the Constitution.
Earlier, Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora, accompanied by Election Commissioners Ashok Lavasa and Sushil Chandra, met the President and submitted a copy of the notification, issued by the Election Commission containing the names of members elected to the 17th Lok Sabha, to him.
With the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance stupendous 350+ seats in just concluded general elections, the NDA will be able to form the next government in 545-member House of the People Common. For forming a government, a party or alliance needs to have a simple majority—272 MPs.
Mr Modi is the first non-Congress PM to complete the full term. In another first, he will be the first non-Congress PM to be re-elected for the post of the Prime Minister.
Outreach
In his acceptance speech at the Central Hall of Parliament, Mr Modi made an outreach to minorities and said the vote bank politics over the decades have only played a 'chhal (deceptive game)' with the poor and the minorities and the onus is now on the newly-elected NDA regime to work for all sections of the people (Sab ka saath, sab ka vikas).
Mr Modi said, "We have worked for Sabka saath, sabka vikas, now we have to strive for Sabka Vishwas (trust of all).'
Before the meeting commenced, Mr Modi walked up to senior leaders and touched the feet of three elders present Lal Krishna Advani, Shiromani Akali Dal chief Parkash Singh Badal and Murli Manohar Joshi.
The name of Mr Modi as BJP Parliamentary party leader was proposed by party president Amit Shah, which was seconded by senior leaders Nitin Gadkari and Rajnath Singh.
Mr Modi's name was again proposed as the NDA leader by SAD patron Parkash Singh Badal, which was endorsed by JD(U) chief Nitish Kumar, Shiv Sena's Uddhav Thackeray, Lok Janshakti Party's Ram Vilas Paswan, All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kaghazam co-convenor Edappadi Palaniswami, among other heads of allies.
Other hand
On the other side, after facing defeat with a tally of just 52 seats, even three short for appointment as the Leader of Opposition, Indian National Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Saturday tendered his resignation from the post. However, his resignation was turned down by the Congress Working Committee which gave him a free hand to restructure the 150-year-old party.
Addressing a news conference after the CWC meeting, along with senior party leaders A K Antony, Ghulam Nabi Azad, AICC general secretary K C Venugopsl and Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, AICC media incharge Randeeep Surjewala said, “Congress President, Rahul Gandhi in his address to the CWC offered his resignation, as the party president. The CWC unanimously and with one voice rejected the same and requested the Congress President for his leadership and guidance in these challenging times. The CWC unanimously called upon the Congress President, Rahul Gandhi to lead the party in its ideological battle and to champion the cause of India’s youth, the farmers, the SC/ST/OBC’s, the Minorities, the poor and the deprived sections.’’
Meanwhile, three senior Congress leaders from Uttar Pradesh, Odisha and Karnataka have tendered their resignation to Mr Gandhi for the party’s defeat in LS polls.
UP Cong head Raj Babbar, Karnataka's chief HK Patil and Odisha's Niranjan Patnaik put in their papers.
Down South
In Andhra Pradesh, Yuvajan Shramik Ryuthu Congress Party president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy met Andhra Pradesh Governor ESL Narasimhan at Raj Bhavan on Saturday and formally staked claim to form the government.
YSR had wiped out Telegu Desam Party from Andhra, bagging 151 of 175 assembly seats.The assembly elections to the state were held simultaneously with Lok Sabha elections.
Earlier in the day, Mr Reddy was unanimously elected as leader of the Legislature party.
Addressing the newly-elected MLAs, Mr Reddy said that he would bring administrative reforms in the governance.
Chief Secretary L V Subramanyam directed officials to make necessary arrangements at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation stadium for the swearing-in ceremony of Me Reddy as the next chief minister of the state, which will be held on May 30, Thursday.
Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao was invited to attend the swearing-in ceremony.
Biju territory
The Biju Janata Dal which has won 112 of the 146 Assembly seats in Odisha in the just concluded Assembly election will elect their leader at the party legislators meeting in Bhubaneshwar on Sunday.
After the meeting, Naveen Patnaik will meet Governor Prof Ganeshi Lal at Raj Bhawan and formally request him to allow the formation of the new government.
Though the date for the swearing in ceremony of the new government has not yet been finalised but it was expected to be held on May 29, Wednesday.
DMK stock
In Tamil Nadu, former Union Minister T R Baalu was on Saturday elected as the Dravida Munnetra Kaghazam Lok Sabha leader.
Bagging 22 seats, the MK Stalin-led DMK swept the Lok Sabha elections in the state reducing AIADMK to a mere high five.
Karnataka effect
The political temperature has risen in Karnataka. With the BJP, blooming “Lotus” in most of the LS seats in Karnataka, Congress Legislative Party leader in the Assembly Siddaramaiah has called a meeting of legislators on May 29 to deliberate on the party’s drubbing in the election.
The Janata Dal (Secular)-INC alliance government stability has become a matter of concern as it enjoys a wafer-thin majority against the BJP in the Assembly.
Volatile Bengal
In Bengal, post-poll violence took place, in which a BJP activist was shot dead allegedly by the Trinamool Congress “goons” at Chakdaha in Nadia district.
Twenty-two-year-old Santu Ghosh was shot dead from close range near a school at Gourpara under Chakdah police station.
Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee on Saturday convened an emergency party meeting at her Kalighat residence to review the post-result scenario.
The party suffered a major debacle after the BJP snatched surprisingly 18 seats, 16 more than 2014, with more than 40 per cent vote share.
In Sikkim, Krantikari Morcha party led by its president PS Goley called on Governor Ganga Prasad on Saturday morning at Raj Bhawan in Gangtok.Goley’s name was proposed as the next Chief Minister but he will have to secure entry into the Assembly within six months.
Goley was accompanied by Sikkim Krantikari Morcha’s winning candidates.
The swearing-in ceremony will take place on May 28, 2019 at Paljour Stadium.
As the counting completed in Arunachal Pradesh for state assembly elections, the BJP put up an impressive show by winning 41 seats including three uncontested in the 60-member house.
BJP candidate and Chief Minister Pema Khandu won from Mukto assembly seat.
Special status
In Srinagar, National Conference president and newly-elected MP from Srinagar constituency, Dr Farooq Abdullah on Saturday said the party will struggle in and outside Parliament to defend the Special Status of the state.
Dr Abdullah said, 'We have a mammoth task ahead of us, on one hand we have to protect the pluralistic ethos of the state, usher in an era of development and on the other hand we have to fight for the protection of the special status of our state.'
