Prez confers 'Nari Shakti Puraskar' to Punjab for women empowerment

Chandigarh, Mar 8 (UNI) On the International Women’s Day, the women folk of Punjab is basking in the glory of pride and self esteem when President of India today conferred the coveted “Nari Shakti Puraskar” to the State for making outstanding contribution towards women empowerment.

The prestigious award was conferred to the state of Punjab during a grand function organised at Rashtarpati Bhawan, New Delhi, on the occasion of International Women’s Day. Punjab Social Security and Women and Child Development Minister Razia Sultana received the award on behalf of Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh

Stating this, Ms Sultana said that this time, State of Punjab has been selected for the ‘Nari Shakti Puraskar 2017’ for its consistent efforts and work demonstrating improvement in Sex Ratio at Birth under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme. She said that that state of Punjab has made tremendous efforts and progress for improving Sex Ratio at Birth. She said that Tarn Taran district has been selected among the best 10 districts of the country where Sex Ratio at Birth has improved remarkably in limited span of time.

The Minister said that of Social Security and Women and Child Development department along with Health and Education department has been doing work at the grassroot level in 20 districts of the state for improving Sex Ratio at Birth. She said that increasing trends in Sex Ratio at Birth are being recorded in other districts of the state.

She dedicated the “Nari Shakti Puraskar” to women folk of Punjab for maintaining the high morals and values of life and to their sheer dedication and hard work in making the state a better livable place. She also thanked Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh for his visionary leadership and for being the true champion of the women cause.

Lucknow, Apr 26 (UNI) After receiving recommendation for CBI probe in selling of 7 Uttar Pradesh government owned sugar mills during the previous Mayawati regime in 2010-11 around one year back, the central agency at last lodged FIR against seven persons for forgery and other irregularities.
