President receives first copy of coffee table book ‘Betiyan'

New Delhi, Dec 2 (UNI) Expressing pride at the contribution made by women through the years, President Pranab Mukherjee today said that no society can be called a civilized society unless it respects its mothers, sisters and daughters.
Speaking at a function at Rashtrapati Bhawan where he received the first copy of a coffee table book ‘Betiyan’, compiled and authored by Mrs. Kiran Chopra, Founder Chairperson, Varishth Nagrik Kesari Club, the President said,''when we look at the pages of history and even in the contemporary period, we feel proud of the contribution made by women throughout the years. One of the inspirations of the first war of Independence in 1857 was Rani Laxmi Bai.
Besides there have been a number of women leaders in the country such as former Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi and a host of others who have made tremendous contribution to the progress of our country. ''
