President Kovind on two-day visit, had darshan of Aththi Varadhar

Chennai, July 12 (UNI) President Ram Nath Kovind, who arrived here on a two-day visit,

had darshan of 'Aththi Varadhar' at Lord Varadharajaswamy temple in Kancheepuram on

Friday.

Earlier, on his arrival from Delhi, he was accorded a warm reception. He was received

at the airport by Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit, Chief Minister Edappadi K

Palaniswami, Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, Director General of Police

J K Tripathy, Chennai City Police Commissioner A K Viswanathan and senior officials.

Later, Mr Kovind accompanied by his family members and Mr Purohit boarded a

helicopter and reached Kancheepuram, where he was received by District Collector

Ponaiah.

After having darshan of once in a 40 year festival of 'Aththi Varadhar', who was taken

out from a silver casket from the temple tank, he returned to the city.

After an overnight stay at Raj Bhavan, Mr Kovind will participate in the convocation

of the Dr Ambedkar Law College tomorrow, before leaving for Renigunta.

He would offer prayers at Tirumala, the abode of Lord Venkateswara and later reach

Sriharikota, where he would witness the launch of Indian Space Agency's second lunar

mission, Chandrayaan-2 at 0251 hrs on Monday.

Security has been tightened at the airport and at Kancheepuram in view of Mr Kovind's

visit.
