New Delhi, Jan 12 (UNI) President Ram Nath Kovind on Saturday gave his nod to the Ordinance, making the practice of instant triple talaq a criminal offence, official sources said.
The ordinance on Triple talaq had been re-promulgated by the Union cabinet on Thursday as the earlier Ordinance was to expire on January 22.
The first Ordinance was issued in September last year.
However, a bill to convert the first Ordinance into a law could not be passed in Rajya Sabha where the opposition has been resisting its passage.
The sources said that the President also gave his nod to Ordinances relating to Indian medical association (amendment) Bill 2018 and the Companies (amendment) Bill 2019.
These Ordinances were also promulgated by the cabinet on Thursday as these bills could not be passed in the Rajya sabha in the Winter session.
This is the second Ordinance on these two bills.
While the earlier Ordinance on the Indian medical association (Amendment) Bill 2018 was issued in September last year, the earlier Ordinance on the Companies (amendment) Bill was promulgated in November.
