Prayagraj Mela Authority to hold annual Magh, Kumbh mela in Allahabad

Lucknow ,Oct 24(UNI) To showcase the religious tourism potential of Uttar Pradesh , the Yogi Adityanath government has set up Prayagraj Mela Authority for holding of the annual Magh and Kumbh mela in Allahabad.

The government has also rechristened Ardh Kumbh which occurs every six year as Kumbh and 12 year Kumbh mela as Maha Kumbh.

The decisions to these effect were taken in the marathon meeting of the state cabinet here on Tuesday which was chaired by the Chief Minister.

Government spokesperson Sidharthnath Singh said that now the Kumbh and Maha-Kumbh would showcase the religious tourism of the state besides it will also help the state in image building.

The CM proposed to change the name of Ardh Kumbh to Kumbh and Kumbh as Maha Kumbh which was accepted by the cabinet, Mr Singh , who hails from Allahabad too and is the state health minister said.

He said that the government is expecting around 120 million pilgrims and tourists during the kumbh mela(Ardh kumbh) of 2019.

Meanwhile the new Prayagraj Mela Authority will be a permanent body with the divisional commission of Allahabad being its chairperson while the district magistrate and inspector general of police will be the vice -chairpersons. Mela officer and other district officials will be also the members of this authority.
