Pragya says Godse was patriot; Cong guns open up

Bhopal, May 16 (UNI) The Bharatiya Janata Party’s Bhopal parliamentary constituency candidate Pragya Singh Thakur’s statement regarding Father of the Nation Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi’s assassin Nathuram Vinayak Godse has stirred up a political hornets’ nest.
A video going viral in social media shows the sadhvi saying that Godse was a nationalist and shall continue to be considered one – those speaking about him should introspect. Preliminary reports indicate that the words were spoken in Agar Malwa District on Thursday.

“Congress leaders support terrorism,” she alleged.

In this regard, the saffron camp’s Madhya Pradesh-level leader Hitesh Bajpai told the press here, “We cannot glorify the Mahatma’s murderer and I am yet unaware of the context in which the sadhvi’s remark was made; speaking further on this matter at this juncture will not be proper.”

Meanwhile, Congress state Media Committee Vice President Bhupendra Gupta told a television news channel that the BJP is a party that plays politics while sporting a mask; it first makes someone speak on an issue and then denials follow.

“Godse was definitely a terrorist and made an attempt on Bapu’s life even earlier,” he said.

In the recent past, Ms Thakur’s comments on the disputed structure in Ayodhya and Ashoka Chakra-recipient Indian Police Service officer Hemant Karkare – who made the supreme sacrifice combatting the 2008 Mumbai attacks – generated a maelstrom.
