Power generation will begin in 30 days in Unit 2 of KKNPP - NPCIL



Tirunelveli, Tamilnadu Jul 10 (UNI) Power generation in the second Unit of Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project (KKNPP) here will commence in the next 30 days, said S.K.Sharma, Chairman and Managing Director of Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL).

      Talking to newsmen, after the second unit attained Criticality tonight, he said the power generation will be increased in steps and the unit will reach its maximum capacity of 1,000 Mega Watts in the next three months.

      He said the third and fourth units in KKNPP were expected to start functioning by 2020-2022.

      The first stage has begun and all parameters pertaining to ongoing operations of the second reactor were satisfactory. The Indian and Russian nuclear experts were monitoring the process, he said.
