Geneva, Oct 15 (UNI) Power cuts in Ukraine could last 20 hours a day in the coming winter, according to a report released by the World Health Organization (WHO) on Monday.
Power cuts can have severe consequences, especially in urban areas where the energy system is closely interconnected and often regulates the supply of heat, hot water and electricity through a single system, the report said.
In June, Ukrainian Energy Minister German Galushchenko said that Ukraine had lost half of its power generating capacity. The remaining capacity will not be enough for Ukraine to survive the winter, while electricity imports will not cover the shortfall, he estimated.
