Chennai, July 15 (UNI) The principal Opposition DMK on Monday
staged a walkout from the Tamil Nadu Assembly after the ruling
AIADMK refused to pass a resolution, insisting the Centre to hold
the postal department exams in regional languages along with
English and Hindi.
When DMK member Thangam Thennarasau raised the issue in the
form of a Special Call Attention motion during Zero hour, the house
witnessed heated arguments between the treasury and the opposition
benches.
Mr Thennarasu said the Centre's move to hold exams in English and
Hindi only was aimed at shunting the doors for the people from the
southern states in the postal department.
Replying to this, Minister D Jayakumar said the government was
firm in its two language policy and always opposed Hindi imposition.
'Our stand is the same as that of Opposition parties,' he said.
Deputy Leader of the Opposition Durai Murugan said the government
should pass a resolution if they were firm on their stand.
Leader of the House and Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam
said AIADMK MPs will raise this issue in Parliament tomorrow and
based on the outcome, a decision will be taken after consultation
with the Opposition parties.
Intervening, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami said the government
was also approaching the issue emotionally and would take a decision
based on the Centre's response.
He also said that the DMK and its alliance party MPs should raise this
issue in Parliament.
Dissatisfied with the reply, the DMK and its alliance party, Congress,
staged a walk out stating from the House.
