Agartala, May 25 (UNI) With the murder of a BJP worker in Fatikcherra area of Northern Agartala under Mohanpur last night, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb today from New Delhi directed the DGP to take stern action against each and every accused persons involved in post-poll violence.
“I made it clear to the workers of both ruling and opposition to stop indulging in violence and not to take law in their own hands. The state government is committed to maintaining peace and tranquility beyond all politics. The violence after election result was being introduced by leftist in 1993 and thereafter it has been continuing but BJP doesn’t believe in such philosophy and we shall not spare anyone,” Deb told UNI.
He further stated that after BJP won the assembly elections last year, there was a huge desertion from CPI (M) to BJP. But in most cases BJP neither recognised them nor even reviewed their activities. They might have voted for BJP by changing their colour and using the victory of BJP as a tool to take revenge of their personal enmity, which did not have any relation with politics.
“The BJP never believe in violence what communist’s had started in West Bengal and now has been practiced by Trinamool there and left believers in Tripura. Voting to BJP is not justified that they preached nationalism and now still they are working with the left ideology and influence of their leaders. I told DGP and all others to take steps for stopping such uncivilized practices and take strong action against all the accused immediately,” Deb added.
However, police said they have already made several arrest across the state and investigation has been launched against all the complaints filed in different police stations. The main accused of killing BJP worker Mithu Bhowmik and attempt to murder of his companion Sanjib Laskar were arrested and steps have been taken to restore peace in the locality.
Meanwhile, Pradesh Congress Committee demanded the state government to assure due compensation to each of the victim of post poll violence and warned if the government fails to ensure security and protection of constitutional rights of the citizen, they will move Supreme Court to seek justice.
The party alleged as many as 76 of their workers were injured in the last two days, in many places Congress party offices were forcefully occupied by BJP and assets of more than Rs 10 Crore had been damaged in the post result violence in Tripura.
The post result violence in Tripura has taken worst turn in last 48 hours that left a person dead and more than a hundred people injured. Allegedly, the ruling BJP has resorted to attack on the opposition CPI (M) and Congress since counting of election was in progress and since last night the counter attacks have turned the situation volatile.
In a counter attack on BJP cadres in Fatikcherra, the opposition supporter Sadhan Debnath and two of his brother Uttam Debnath and Rajkumar Debnath killed Mithu with sharp weapons and Sanjib was shifted to ICU of Agartala Govt Medical College (AGM) with multiple cut marks on his body. Doctors stated Sanjib was critical.
While police arrested the accused Debnath brothers early this morning, the violent mob set the houses of the accused persons on fire. Allegedly, the BJP workers, led by deceased Mithu Bhowmik and injured Sanjib Laskar, attacked the house of Sadhan Debnath on May 23 night after election result was announced and similar incidents were reported in other areas of the locality.
Yesterday, Sadhan and his brothers attacked Mithu and Sanjib with sharp cutters and Mithu died on the spot. The similar incident of violence has been reported from several parts of the state in the past two days.
