Possibility of making Aadhar mandatory for claiming GST refunds will be examined: Sitharaman

Panaji, Sep 20 (UNI) Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday said that Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council had taken an in-principle decision to link Aadhar with registration of taxpayers under GST.
Addressing a press conference in the city after chairing the 37th GST Council Meet in the city, she said possibility of making Aadhar mandatory for claiming GST refunds would also be examined.
Ms Sitharaman said it had also been decided to form a committee to ensure simplification of return filing procedures.
A committee of officers would be constituted to examine simplification of forms for annual return and reconciliation statement and suitable amendments would be made in the in Central GST Act, Union Territories GST Act and the corresponding State GST Acts in view of creation of Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
The Finance Minister said to control problem of fake invoices and fraudulent refunds the Council had taken in-principle decision to prescribe reasonable restrictions on passing of credit by risky taxpayers including risky new taxpayers.
