Possibility of genetically mutated virus leading to rise of covid cases in Kerala: Expert

Pune, Feb 20 ( UNI) There could be possible attack from a new strain of Coronavirus that might have undergone genetic mutation leading to significant rise in covid cases in Kerala.
However, more studies will be required to get a clear picture about this presumption, opined an expert.
According to Visiting Professor at the Thrissur-based Kerala University of Health Sciences, School of Public health- Dr Naresh Purohit, the continued rise in the number of Covid cases in Kerala, despite the steep decline in cases nationwide, is worrisome. On one hand, when the state’s testing strategy and over-dependence on antigen tests are being criticised, the possibility of an undetected mutant strain of Covid virus circulating in the state is also being discussed.
