Possession of adulterated drugs to be punished with life imprisonment in Bangladesh

Dhaka, Feb 6 (UNI) The Bangladesh cabinet on Monday gave the final approval to the draft Medicines Act 2022 which includes the provision of life imprisonment for possession of adulterated drugs.The law cleared by the cabinet also contains a provision of a 10-year sentence for the unlicensed production of drugs.
After the cabinet meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Cabinet Secretary Mahbub Hossain told reporters the new law has also added the word 'cosmetics' to 'drugs'. The Act shall henceforth be known as the 'Drugs and Cosmetics Act-2022'.
According to the law, antibiotics cannot be sold without a prescription from a registered medical practitioner. .
