Pongal celebrated in Pondy

Pongal celebrated in Pondy

Puducherry, Jan 15 (UNI) Pongal, the harvest festival of Tamils was celebrated with gaiety and pomp in this union territory on Wednesday.

People clad in new dress thronged temples here to worship the deity on the occasion. They also prepared “sweet Pongal” and exchanged it and pleasantries to friends and relatives to mark the occasion.

Puducherry Lt Governor Kiran Bedi, Chief Minister V Narayansamy, his cabinet colleagues, speaker Sivakolunthu, Lok Sabha member V Vaithilingam and leaders of different political parties among others greeted the people on the occasion.

Chennai, Aug 05 (UNI) Tamil Nadu recorded a staggering new high of 112 new COVID-19 deaths on Wednesday, taking the total fatalities to 4,461 while the number of infections mounted to 2,73,460 with 5,175 people testing positive for the virus.
