Pondy to introduce total lockdown on Tuesdays

Puducherry, Aug 12 (UNI) In the wake of the increase in number of Corona Virus Disease (COVID 19) patients in the union territory, the Puducherry administration will impose some more restrictions here,chief minister V Narayanasmay said here on Wednesday.
In a video clip sent to the media here tonight after the meeting of the state Disaster Management Authority under his chairmanship,the chief minister said that hereafter a total lock down will be there on every Tuesdays from August 18.This will be till August 31,he said .The chief minister said that though Tamilnadu is imposing a total lock down on every Sundays,it is not possible in Puducherry due to marriages and other functions and hence,on Tuesdays,he added. All the shops will have to function from 6 AM to 7 PM from Friday next and the shopkeepers will have to reach their houses within one hour and from 8 PM to 6 AM no one should be there on the streets,he said.Stringent action will be initiated against those who violate the total lock down,he said.
On complaints that people are not maintaining social distancing,the chief minister said that for marriages there should be only 50 persons and the marriage halls where more than that gathered will be locked and sealed.For funeral only 20 persons be there,he added.Seeking the support of the people,the CM said that steps would be taken to provide financial assistance to the people once,the state financial position improved.
