Pondy filed affidavit in SC for Cauvery water : Minister

Puducherry, Aug 30 (UNI) The Puducherry government had filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court in respect of release of Cauvery water, PWD Minister A Namasivayam told the legislative assembly today.
Replying to a special mention from AIADMK member A Anbazhagan during zero hour, Mr.Namasivayam said that the Tamil Nadu government had moved the Supreme Court on the issue and the Union Territory too had filed a petition on August 26. The issue is coming up for hearing before the Apex court on September 2. Tamil Nadu should get 50 TMC and Puducherry(Karaikal region) six tmc as interim arrangement, he added. Mr Namasivayam said that the administration would take all steps to protect the interest of the Karaikal farmers. Karaikal should have received 2.56 TMC ft of Cauvery water every year. But in the last five years no water was received and the previous government had not taken any initiatives in this regard, he added.
Speaker V Vaithilingam intervened to state that the Puducherry government did not ask for water and Tamil Nadu did not release water in the last five years.
