Puducherry, Sep 25 (UNI)Pondicherry International Film Festival beginning here on September 26 promises to be a feast for cinema lovers with over 100 curated independent films from across the world, 3 World Premieres, 11 India Premieres and 5 Special Screenings.
The Opening Night of the festival will be hosted at the French Consulate Pondicherry on 25th Sept in the presence of French Consulate General Mrs Catherine Suard with special screening of Félicité by Alain Gomis winner of Silver Bear Grand Jury Prize at Berlinale 2017, according to organising sources here.
France is the partner country for the festival and there will be a focus on French cinema, art & culture with special screening of films by French contemporary women film makers including Eden by Mia Hansen-Love, Raging Rose (Crache couer) by Julia Kowalski, Grand Central by Rebecca Zlotowski, Standing Tall (La tete haute) by Emmanuelle Bercot and A Castle in Italy (Un chateau en Italie) by Valeria Bruni-Tedeschi.
Puducherry chief minister V Narayansamy will inaugurate the festival at Alliance Française de Pondichéry on September 26,followed by screening of National Award Winner for Best Tamil Film (2018) 'To Let' by Chezhyian.
According to Consul General of France in Pondicherry and Chennai Mrs Catherine SUARD , "It is indeed a privilege to be associated with this first edition of the Pondicherry International Film Festival as the representative of the country that has produced stalwarts in cinematography like Etienne-Jules Marey, Louis and August Lumière, Georges Méliès and Alice Guy-Blaché here in India, a country which today produces the maximum number of films in maximum number of languages in a year. You have an array of over 100 curated independent films from across the world including world Premieres and India Premieres. Our involvement in this event gives you an additional proof of our commitment across domains to the development of Pondicherry. You have seen our association with the Smart City, with the first ever Regatta that was conducted here recently and now with this festival that is likely to attract, in the years to come, thousands of tourists and raising the bar for tourism. The pleasure is rendered multi-fold since all our actions are in collaboration with the government of Pondicherry."
