Police foils minor girl’s marriage in AP

Kakinada, Dec 8 (UNI) The timely action of police has averted a minor girl’s marriage in Vadisaleru village of Rangampet mandal 45kms from here last night, police said on Sunday.

Someone has informed the police by dialing to 100 number at the district police headquarters here around 2214 hrs on Saturday night that a minor girl's wedding was going to be performed at Bhajaranagaswamy temple in Vadisaleru village.

Within fifteen minutes the subinspector of Rangampet along with his staff has reached the marriage venue and verified the situation. They were informed that the 14 year old girl studying in class eighth, hailing from Subhadrammapet village of Rangampet mandal was being married to a 25 year old man of G Donthamur village and the 'muhurtham' was fixed at 22.50 hrs.

The SI has counseled the parents and the purohit and elders of both sides against performing the marriage as it was in contravention of the law and punishable under child marriage act ."They were warned of the consequences and stopped the child marriage," the police said.

SP Adnan Nayeem Asmi has complimented the SI Ch Sudhakar for prompt action .The SP has advised the people to approach the police for help during emergencies by dialing to number.
