Police fire in air, burst teargas shells to disperse demonstration in Srinagar

Srinagar, Jun 10 (UNI) Security forces today fired several rounds in the air and also burst teargas shells to disperse demonstrators who had hit the bypass at Shaltang, connecting Srinagar with entire north Kashmir, protesting against the release of a driver who was involved in a road accident in which a girl had died.
The trouble started this morning when hundreds of people, mostly women took to streets at Shalteang, about 10 km from here raising slogans against police and demanding justice. The demonstrators blocked Srinagar-Baramulla and Srinagar-Bandipora road.
Hundreds of vehicles, including those carrying tourists to Gulmarg, government employees and security forces, got stranded on both sides of the roads as demonstrators were not allowing any vehicle to pass. Due to closure of the road, traffic system was also badly affected in other parts of the downtown and byepass.
