PNB has capacity and capability to come out of situation : Sunil Mehta

Chandigarh, Mar 22 (UNI) The Punjab National Bank has reiterated that the bank has the capacity and capability to handle the current situation and protect the interest of its customers and stakeholders.
Stating this in a letter sent to the PNB employees by Bank's Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Sunil Mehta said that clean and responsible banking is the central pillar for the PNB as an institution and there is zero tolerance to unethical practices within the system.
He announced that the Bank has also initiated prompt steps for protecting the financial interest of its customers and to act swiftly to recover the dues. In his letter, he urged employees to stay aggressively focused on customer service.
Mr Mehta said, “Tough times never last, tough people do. Some of our customers banking with us may be experiencing bit of anxiety at this moment. Let us be sensitive towards their feelings and assure that our Bank will fully justify the trust reposed in it. Throughout the years, the Bank has continued to win the trust of all stakeholders – Customers, Employees, Stakeholders, Vendors, Regulators and Government. Recently, the government has shown its support by allocation Rs 5473 crore to the Bank to fund its growth. Let me assure you all that our Bank is safe and sound”, he added.
Underlining the pivotal role that the Bank has played in nation-building and being the backbone of the economy, the bank highlighted that it is one of the few banks to show profit during Q3 FY ‘18. It has a power of 5 Cs i.e., one of the highest CASA Share, Stable Credit Quality, Robust Credit Growth, Adequate Capital and Low costto Income Ratio.
The Bank has decided to increase its focus on Current and Savings Account (CASA) targeting small depositors. It is already generating more than 40 per cent of its resources through CASA.
"The employees of PNB have built this institution with their dedication and commitment. The unethical behaviourof a few should not take away from the pivotal role the Bank has played in nation building and the profound impact we have on the societies we serve," the letter said.
