Lucknow, Aug 23 (UNI) The Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh has announced that the much hyped Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojna (PMKSY) will be implemented in all the districts of the state to ensure water harvesting and increased productivity of the farmers.
The UP Minister for forest and environment Dara Singh Chauhan said the state government is providing 35 per cent extra in addition to the prescribed subsidy on drip irrigation system, sprinklers and other latest techniques of irrigation under the scheme.
“The small and marginal farmers are given 90 percent of the unit cost in shape of subsidy, while it is 80 percent in case of other farmers. The amount of subsidy is transferred to the bank account of farmers through DBT,” he said in a statement here on Friday.
The minister said the state level approval committee had signed contract with 68 firms for drip and sprinkler irrigation system for a period of five years. “Farmers are free to deal with any of these firms and get advantage,” he said.
The government says that the farmers who come under Prime Minister Crop Insurance Scheme (PMCIS) should avail the benefit if required.
Under the scheme, crops on 23.70 lakh hectares of land were insured by 25.60 lakh farmers during Kahrif in 2017. Out of these 04.01 lakh farmers were paid Rs. 244.75 crore as compensation. Likewise, in Rabi 2017-18, crops on 23.07 lakh hectares of land were insured by 28.13 lakh farmers under the scheme, out of which, 1.79 lakh farmers were paid Rs. 119.85 crore as compensation.
In the same way, crops on 26.87 lakh hectares of land were insured by 31.47 lakh farmers in 2018-19 under the scheme, out of which, 5.58 lakh farmers were paid Rs. 419.54 crore as compensation. “In the Rabi 2018-19, crops on 24.22 lakh hectares of land were insured by 29.69 lakh farmers under the scheme, out of which 0.38 lakh farmers were paid Rs. 18.11 crore as compensation,” he said.
