PMJAY to bring change in health care scenario : Nadda

Hyderabad, Sep 16 (UNI) Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY), which is going to be launched on September 22 is the world's largest Universal Health care programme and will bring change in the healthcare scenario of the country, Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda said.

Speaking on the occasion of completing 20 years of the Gullapalli Pratibha Rao International Centre for Advancement of Rural EyeCcare (GPRICARE), a L V Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI)’s community eye care arm here on Saturday, Mr Nadda said Prime Minister is launching PMJAY in 29 states to aid 10.74 crore families and 55 crore people from the marginalized sections of the society.
They will be provided a golden card through which they can seek Rs 5 lakh worth of tertiary care per family per annum. Around 1350 high end surgical procedures are included in it, he said.

The Union Minister said that the National Health Programme was a bold initiative of the government, which would bring a paradigm shift in reaching out healthcare to deprived sections. This programme needs financial support too, so that payments can be made timely and it becomes an effective programme.

"Through this programme we will convert 150,000 sub-centers, PHCs into wellness centers. Our goal is to screen all at the age of 30 years for major ailments like BP, Diabetes, mental health, geriatric problems, oral cancer, cervix cancer, breast cancer and also eye screening, so that in the years to come we would reduce the disease burden", Mr Nadda said.
