PMJAY Scheme to Cover COVID-19 Treatments for All the Beneficiaries

Mumbai, Apr 10 (PRNews): As we all know, the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) scheme is one of the largest government-funded healthcare facilities in the world. The aim is to provide basic healthcare coverage to the poor and vulnerable families in India.

With the recent coronavirus outbreak spreading in India, the National Health Authority (NHA) decided to cover its hospitalization and treatment expenses for the PMJAY beneficiaries. Not only this, but the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority in India (IRDAI) also issued a memorandum declaring that all health insurance providers should cover the treatment expenses and hospitalization costs for COVID-19.

With COVID-19 now being covered under the PMJAY scheme, the eligible families can get themselves tested for the virus in any of the empaneled hospitals. The testing is absolutely free of cost.

If any of the beneficiaries are tested positive for coronavirus and requires to be shifted to a private hospital for isolation and further treatment, the expense incurred in doing so is also covered under the scheme.

As per the NHA, the authorities have finalized healthcare packages that could be needed to cover the treatment of COVID-19 under the PMJAY scheme. The treatment is expected to be covered under the viral infection package offered by the scheme. Additionally, other healthcare packages for respiratory distress have been availed by the beneficiaries who need intensive care in extreme cases.

The Ayushman Bharat - PMJAY (AB-PMJAY) scheme was established in September 2018 to ensure that the secondary and tertiary level healthcare is made available to the poor individuals in India. It roughly covers up to 10 crore vulnerable families (which is over 50 crore individuals) across the country.

The PMJAY beneficiaries are selected as per the Socio-Economic and Caste Census (SECC) 2011. The scheme then provides a healthcare coverage of up to INR 5 lakh to each eligible family every year. As of now, the PMJAY scheme has around 1400 predefined packages covering over 23 specialties.

Along with this, the NHA is pushing to get the COVID-19 treatment covered under the scheme so that the weaker society does not suffer at the loss of the economy.

The NHA is encouraging the people eligible under the PMJAY scheme to seek tests and treatments in case of coronavirus symptoms. Moreover, the empanelled hospitals are well-trained and equipped for the testing, treatment, and isolation facilities of the positively tested patients.

However, before you proceed to avail of the PMJAY benefits, check your eligibility and provide the necessary documents. To check your eligibility, follow the steps below -

Visit the PMJAY websiteClick on ‘Am I Eligible’Enter your mobile number and Generate OTPAfter this, select your residential state and search by name/HHD number/ ration card number/ mobile numberBased on the results, you can then confirm whether or not your family is eligible under the PMJAY scheme

Alternatively, you can check your eligibility offline by contacting any of the Empaneled Health Care Providers (EHCP). Once you are eligible for the PMJAY benefits, you can proceed to the registration process where you will be issued an e-card. The e-card is then used to avail of the healthcare facility under the PMJAY scheme.
