PM visits Pathankot IAF base day after end of combing operation

Pathankot, Jan 9 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who arrived here this morning, is taking stock of the situation at the Air Force Base which was attacked by suspected Pakistani terrorists during the intervening night of January 1 and 2. Mr Modi is going round the base and is expected to be briefed by senior security forces about the situation. The Prime Minister is also likely to meet the families of the officers who lost their life in the terror attack. The visit is taking place a day after the security forces declared the airbase sanitised after massive combing operation spread over three days. It was after a four-day gun battle that the six terrorists suspected to have come from across the border were killed. The attack and the ensuing encounter left seven security personnel dead. Mr Modi is also likely to meet Airforce personnel. Reports from Chandigarh said that tight security arrangements have been made for the Prime Minister's visit. The Pathankot attack, one of the deadliest in the recent history of terror strikes from across the border came at a time when India and Pakistan were to begin their engagement for resuming a comprehensive dialogue. India has told Pakistan to act on the evidence provided by its agencies on the attack before any talks could happen.
