PM thanks 1 crore people for giving up LPG subsidy to help poor

New Delhi, Apr 24 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi  expressed gratitude to one crore citizens who voluntarily gave up their LPG subsidy to help the more needy. ‘’Gratitude to the 1 crore citizens, who have made a wonderful contribution towards #TransformingIndia. #GiveItUp,’’ the Prime Minister tweeted. In a post on the micro-blogging website, the PMO also posted a poster on ‘GiveitUp’ campaign carrying Mr Modi’s statement, 'To give is as joyful as to receive, I assure you that the subsidy you give up will reach those who need it.' Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Dharmendra Pradhan had yesterday announced that under the ‘GiveItUp’ movement, which was started on the call given by the Prime Minister on March 27 last year, one crore people had given up their subsidy so that the Government could give LPG connection to poor families. He highlighted that majority of GiveItUp consumers belong to middle class families, pensioners, teachers, among others, who were driven by an idea to help their needy fellow citizens. Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu have contributed to nearly 50 per cent of the total numbers. More than 60 lakh connections have been given to BPL families.
