PM Modi recalls role of Shibendu Shekhar Ray in saving Malda's Identity

Kolkata, Jan 17 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday recalled the role played by Shibendu Shekhar Ray in ensuring that Malda remained part of India during the 1947 Partition, a reference that drew attention as Ray was a former Hindu Mahasabha leader and the father of Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP Sukhendu Shekhar Ray.
At a public meeting in Malda, the BJP in West Bengal presented the Prime Minister with a framed photograph of Shibendu Shekhar Ray as the first gift.
The presentation was made by state BJP president Samik Bhattacharya and union Minister of State Sukanta Majumdar, surprising many as the photograph was of the father of a sitting TMC MP- Sukhendu Sekhar Ray.

Two more owners of the illegal rat-hole coal mine arrested in Meghalaya

Shillong, Feb 15 (UNI) Meghalaya police arrested two more owners of the illegal rat-hole coal mine where a dynamite blast killed 31 mine workers in Mynsngat-Thangsko area of East Jaintia Hills district, police said on Sunday.
Earnest Swer and Rangsing Syiemlieh alias Mithun were arrested on Saturday after evading police arrest in connection with the deadly coal mine blast on February 5, police said.
