New Delhi, Feb 19 (UNI) The high-level selection panel, headed by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is believed to have decided the names for the appointment of Chief Vigilance Commissioner (CVC) and Chief Information Commissioner (CIC).
According to a source, Secretary to the President Ram Nath Kovind, Sanjay Kothari has been chosen as the new CVC and the present Information Commissioner Bimla Julka as CIC. Both of them were Secretaries in Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) and Information and Broadcasting Ministry respectively.
In the meeting of the selection committee held last evening, the Congress member Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary objected to procedural formalities for the both constitutional posts and said that no search committee was constituted to select the CIC and no documents were given to him before the meeting so that he could have gone through those, the source said.
Mr Chaudhary also objected to the inclusion of Finance Secretary Rajiv Kumar in the panel since he was in the search committee and an applicant as well but he did not give any dissent note.
The meeting was attended by the Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Minister of State in Prime Minister’s Office Dr Jitendra Singh.
The Central Vigilance Commission consists of a CIC and two Vigilance Commissioners.The CVC is the highest appellate body under the Right to Information Act (RTI).
