PM Modi holds talks with visiting Singaporean President Shanmugaratnam

New Delhi, Jan 16 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday held a fruitful meeting with visiting Singaporean President Tharman Shanmugaratnam during which they reviewed the bilateral partnership.
The MEA spokesperson in a post on X said:
“Celebrating India-Singapore Comprehensive Strategic Partnership: Strengthening India’s Act East policy.
“PM @narendramodi held a warm and fruitful meeting with President
@Tharman_S of Singapore in New Delhi today.
“Continuing their discussions from their recent meeting in Singapore in Sept 2024, the leaders extensively reviewed the bilateral partnership. They also exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest.”
He posted on President Droupadi Murmu’s meeting with the Singapore President:
“Boosting India-Singapore historic relations.
“President Droupadi Murmu @rashtrapatibhvn held wide-ranging talks with President @Tharman_S of Singapore in New Delhi today.
“Discussions covered avenues for further strengthening Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between India and Singapore.”
A press statement said:
President Tharman Shanmugaratnam is on a State Visit to India from January 14-18. President Tharman is accompanied by his spouse, Jane Ittogi Shanmugaratnam. The delegation includes Minister for Transport and Second Minister for Finance Chee Hong Tat, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of National Development Sim Ann, Members of Parliament of Singapore and officials. This is President Tharman’s first State Visit to India.
President Tharman was welcomed by President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Rashtrapati Bhavan and was accorded a Ceremonial Guard of Honour. President Tharman paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi at Raj Ghat.
President Tharman held discussions with President Droupadi Murmu, who also hosted a banquet in his honour. Both Presidents unveiled a joint logo commemorating 60th anniversary of establishment of India-Singapore bilateral ties. Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the President of Singapore. During this meeting the two leaders extensively reviewed the bilateral relationship and discussed ways to strengthen the India-Singapore Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. They also exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar called on President Tharman. In addition, Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari; Minister of Health & Family Welfare and Chemicals & Fertilizers Jagat Prakash Nadda; Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs Nirmala Sitharaman; Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal; Minister of Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw; and MoS(IC) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, and MoS for Education Jayant Chaudhary called on President Tharman.
The State Visit of President Tharman marks the commencement of the celebrations of the 60th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Singapore which have evolved into a robust and multi-faceted partnership.
The President of Singapore will visit Odisha during January 17-18.
Singapore is a key pillar of India’s ‘Act East’ Policy and our vision of the Indo-Pacific. This visit follows an eventful year in India-Singapore bilateral relations, the hallmark of which was Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Singapore in September 2024, which also witnessed elevation of India-Singapore ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
