PM Modi congratulates Barbados PM Mottley on her party's resounding victory

New Delhi, Jan 21 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday congratulated Barbados Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley for her party’s resounding victory in the general elections and her re-election as PM, and said he looks forward to working together to strengthen the bilateral ties.
In a tweet, the PM said:
“Warmly congratulate @miaamormottley for the resounding victory of her party in the first general elections of the Republic of Barbados and her re-election as Prime Minister.
“Look forward to working together for further strengthening the friendly ties between India and Barbados.”
Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley has won the first elections of Barbados with a clean sweep.
She created history once again with a second consecutive 30-0 victory at the polls as the opposition parties failed to secure any seats.
“I have to be the Government’s chief opposition when necessary because the one thing I know is that in any way I must not breach the oath of office which I took, and the people of this country must know, the fairness, the value, the accountability that they need, the transparency which they require will always be part and parcel of the functioning of this Government,” she said.
Mottley dismissed the challenge of the Democratic Labour Party (DLP) under the leadership of Verla De Peiza, while the emerging parties, including the coalition Alliance Party for Progress led by former Opposition Leader Bishop Joseph Atherley, did not make much of an impact with the electorate.
Even those seats which were being closely watched turned out to be nothing more than a momentary blip.
Barbados is an island country in the Lesser Antilles of the West Indies, in the Caribbean region of the Americas.
