New Delhi, Sep 20 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday laid the foundation stone for India International Convention and Expo Centre (IICC), a centre having facilities on par with the best in the world.
Speaking after inaugurating the IICC in Dwarka area of the national capital, the PM said,’’this project worth Rs 26,000 crore will emerge as centre of attitude and energy of 80 crore youth. It's not just a convention and expo centre but vibrant centre for domestic and international business.
It will be like a mini city within Delhi. In one single campus, there will be convention hall, expo hall, meeting hall, hotels, market, offices and several other facilities.’’
Describing the centre as being in line with the new direction given to the social and physical infastructure in the country during the last four years since the NDA Government came to power, the PM said, ’’this government has started work on unprecedented schemes for the development of the country. Work on the longest tunnel, work on laying the longest gas pipeline, work on the longest bridge on the sea, creating the largest mobile manufacturing unit and the work of setting up the biggest post payments bank in rural India.
These are not just projects to give a new direction to the physical and social infrastructure of the country but symbols of the 21st century New India’s speed, scale and skill. This centre is another addition to this list.’’
Noting that setting up of big conference halls in small countries has turned these countries into tourist hubs, PM lamented that for years no efforts were made in this direction.
‘’For years, no efforts were made in this direction. Huge conferences were restricted to only a few centers, such as Pragati Maidan. Now this thinking has changed and this centre is a result of this,’’the PM said.
