PM lambasts "family parties" at BJP poll rally

Hyderabad, Dec 3 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi tonight tore into hereditary and family parties which posed a threat to democracy in the country.

Addressing a mammoth public meeting at Lal Bahadur stadium here to campaign for the BJP candidates for the December seven Assembly election in Telangana, he said 'the country's 29th state was not formed for a single family'.

Mr Modi said Telangana was not craved out to give a right to caretaker Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao's family to "loot" the state, adding another family party was at the helm of National politics (referring to Congress) for over four decades.

He said the Telugu Desam party which was formed by former Chief Minister N.T.Rama Rao to oppose Congress now joined hands with that party as the present TDP president and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N.Chandrababu Naidu also believed in family rule.

He said the Congress was the "guru" of both Mr KCR and Mr Naidu and added that the TRS and the Congress were two sides of the same coin. He said the parties which believed in family rules posed a grave threat to the country's democracy, the Prime Minister said.

Mr. Modi said the Majlis-e-Itthadul Muslimeen professed a different kind of politics.

He claimed the only party which did not believe in hereditary and family party but only in true democracy was the BJP.

He said some parties were in the habit of provoking minorities and SCs by charging that attacks on these sections had increased in recent times adding these vote bank politics were being pursued for "Kurshi" (seat of power) to the detriment of the country's progress.

Mr Modi recalled that the previous BJP-led NDA government headed by A.B.Vajpayee formed three new states which were now on the fast track to progress but the story in Telangana was different, which was limping.

He listed out the various welfare schemes taken up by the present BJP-headed NDA government for the betterment of different sections of the people.
