New Delhi, Dec 30 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi today purchased a Kashmiri shawl and a napkin by making digital payment through a new mobile App ‘Bhim’. The Prime Minister clicked a button to pay Khadi Gramodyog for the two items at the sixth digidhan mela oranised here on the last day of the deadline for exchanging and surrenderng old notes following their demonetisation announced by him on November 8. Named after architect of the Constitution Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar, who was also an economist, the ‘Bhim’ app has been invented to make digital payment easier. It would not require the customer to possess a phone with internet connection. However, merchants would have to download Aadhaar cashless merchant app on their smartphone connected to a biometric reader. The customer will feed his or her Aadhaar number into the app, select the bank through which the transaction will take place, and the biometric scam will work as a password for authenticating the transaction. Users of app will not have to pay fee to service providers like Mastercard or Visa, a charge because of which small merchants were having some reservations for adopting the such apps. UNI NAZ SNU 1714
