PM and Punjab CM discuss Kartarpur: Capt Amarinder also meets Jaishankar

PM and Punjab CM discuss Kartarpur: Capt Amarinder also meets Jaishankar

New Delhi, Jul 15 (UNI) A day after official delegations from India and Pakistan held talks at Wagah in Pakistan on the much expected Kartarpur Corridor, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh on Monday discussed the same matter.
Sources in the Punjab government said at the meeting Prime Minister assured the Punjab Chief Minister "all help".
Punjab Chief Minister also raised the issue of Rs 31,000 crore legacy debt issue with Mr Modi.
Sources said as this was the first meeting since general elections and Mr Modi's assumption of office for second term, Capt Amarinder congratulated Prime Minister for assuming office for the "second term".
External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar met the Chief Minister at the Kapurthala House here.
The two leaders reportedly also held discussions on the Kartarpur corridor, which will enable Sikh pilgrims to pay homage to Guru Nanak Devji on the occasion the 550th birth anniversary celebrations of the founder of the Sikh religion.
"Delighted to meet Minister of External Affairs Dr S Jaishankar. Have high hopes from a professional as a minister. Fondly remember his father, K Subrahmanyam ji, who chaired the Kargil Review Committee and headed the NSC Advisory Board," the Chief Minister tweeted.
Capt Amarinder Singh also called on Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat.
The Chief Minister conveyed his concern on national water crisis and mooted the idea of a "region wise all party meetings" under Prime Minister Modi.
This will help to collectively tackle the problem of water crisis, Punjab Chief Minister said.
At the Wagah talks on Kartarpur Corridor, India on Sunday did a fine balancing act between tough talking on security with Pakistan and also displayed skillful diplomacy by offering to make "interim arrangements" for making the corridor operational by November this year.
For its part, Pakistan was put on back foot vis-a-vis pro-Khalistani Gopal Singh Chawla issue but sought to give an impression of remaining optimistic to put the Kartarpur negotiations on track and termed Sunday's talks as "positive developments".
In March, India had canceled the April 2 meet citing the presence of Chawla and another Khalistani leader Bishan Singh in the official panel of Pakistan.
According to an MEA statement: "Pakistan side assured our delegation that no anti-India activity would be allowed".
Indian delegation led by a senior Home Ministry official SCL Das also handed over a dossier to Pakistani side on terror and security related issues and wanted that the western neighbour must act against Sikhs For Justice, a New York-based organisation and which indulges in anti-India campaign.
