Plessis hits 67 as Rising Pune Supergiants score 152-7

MOHALI, Apr 17 (UNI) Precariously placed at 76 for 3 midway through their innings, opener Faf du Plessis and Steven Smith (38) guided Rising Pune Supergiants to 152 for 7 in 20 overs against Kings XI Punjab with a 63-run fourth wicket partnership in the Indian Premier League Twentry20 day-night match at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium here on Sunday. Supergiants lost their last four wickets for just 13 runs. Mohit Sharma and Sandeep Sharma bowled well and contained the Supergiants innings. In his four-over spell Sandeep Sharma dismissed Ajinkya Rahane (9) and Thisara Perera (8). Mohit Sharma catured three wickets, including the prize wicket of opener Faf du Plessis who played a solid innings of 67 from 53 deliveries before he was caught and bowled by Mohit. He executed well-timed eight fours. Mohit also got the important wicket of Steven Smith (38) and captain Mahindra Singh Dhoni (1). Steven Smith's wicket fell at 139. Mohit Sharma terminated his 26-ball 38 when he had caught by David Miller. During his stay at the wicket, he slammed five fours. Plessis continued to play a solid innings and captain Mahindra Singh Dhoni joined him Rising Pune Supergiants were 76 for 2 at the end of 10 overs. Right hand opener Faf du Plessis was batting on 37 from 27 balls and Thisara Perera 8. However Thisara Perera's stay at the wicket was restricted by Sandeep Sharma who captured his second wicket. Sandeep got Perera caught by Mohit Sharma and the Pune Supergiants were reduced to 76 for 3. Plessis played a matured innings. He completed his half century with the help of half a dozen boundaries. Steven Smith joined him. Steven realised 15 runs, including three fours, in Abbott's third over to accerlerate the scoring rate. Rising Pune Supergiants lost the wickets of opener Ajinkya Rahane (9) and Kevin Pietersen c Manan Vohara (15). Sandeep Sharma and debutant Kyle Abbott got won wicket each. A second wicket partnership of 55 runs between opener Fafd du Plessis and Kevin Pietersen helped Rising Pune Supergiants recovr to 65 for 2. KP Pietersen faced 15 deliveries for 15 runs before he was brillinatly caught by local lad Manan Vohra at midwicket of the bowling of Kyle Abbott who made his IPL deubt. He came in place of Michell Johnson. Batting first after winning the toss, Rising Pune Supergiants opened their innings with Ajinkya Rahane and Faf du Plessis. Medium fast bowler Sandeep Sharma bowled the first over for Kings XI Punjab. With scorecard reading 10, Sandeep struck in his second over's first ball getting the wicket of Rahane, whose inside edge hit the stumps. Rahane made nine from 11 balls and hit two boundaries.
