Plains of Kashmir lashed by rains, upper reaches receive snow

Srinagar, Jan 20 (UNI) Plains of Kashmir valley were lashed by rains while upper reaches including ski resort of Gulmarg experienced a fresh snowfall on Thursday.

The MeT office forecasts that light rain and snow is likely during the next 24 hours at various places in Jammu and Kashmir and the weather will remain cloudy. However there is no forecast of any major spell of snowfall till the end of January.

Upper reaches of Kashmir including famous ski resort of Gulmarg received fresh snowfall while plains were lashed by rains.

Srinagar, the summer capital of Kashmir, recorded a low of 2.2 degree Celsius and it also received 2.9mm rains till Thursday morning.
Gulmarg in north Kashmir was recorded at minus 5.0 degree Celsius against minus 6 degrees Celsius yesterday. It also received 8.0mm of rain and 8.0cms of snow till 0830hours on Thursday.

Tourist spot of Pahalgam in south Kashmir recorded a low of minus 0.6 degree Celsius and it also received 3.2mm of rain and 0.4cm snow till 0830hours today.
The temperature at Kupwara settled at 1.2 degrees Celsius and it also received rainfall of 3.2mm.
Leh in Ladakh recorded a minimum of minus 9.0 degrees and at Kargil the minimum temprature was recorded at 15.0 degrees. Drass recorded a low of minus 15.9 degrees Celsius.
