PKK militia systematically exploits teenagers, most die in fighting

Ankara, Sep 29 (UNI) Military formations of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), banned in Turkey, are systematically exploiting teenagers and children, using them in combat and causing many of them to die within eight years of recruitment, Turkish news agency Anadolu reported on Friday, citing security sources.
Most of the recruited teenagers and children, whose average age is 15, are being forced to join the militia and die in clashes or terrorist attacks, the media said, adding that the PKK continues to exploit children despite violating international laws, including the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
Although one of the PKK's leaders, Mazloum Abdi, signed an agreement with the UN back in June 2019, promising to release "child fighters within the organization," the practice continues, the news agency added.
