New Delhi, Sep 24 (UNI) Senior Congress leader and former Finance Minister P Chidambaram on Monday slammed the Narendra Modi Government for its refusal to order a probe into the Rafale deal despite a statement by former France President Francois Hollande that his government did not have a choice in the selection of AnilAmbani’s company as the offset partner in the Rafale deal.
Reacting to Finance Minister Arun Jaitley disputing the statement by former French President Francois Hollande on the choice of an offset partner in the Rafale deal, Mr Chidambaram, in a series of tweets, said, "truth cannot have two versions' says FM. Absolutely correct. Since, according to FM, there are two versions, what is the best way to find out which version is 'true'? Either (1) order an inquiry or (2) toss a coin. I suppose the FM would prefer to toss a coin (preferably with 'head' on both sides)!’’
‘’It is a pity that the government does not see the inexorable flow of events and refuses to order an inquiry. Who knows what will happen in 6 months or 12 months?,’’Mr Chidambaram said.
In a post on social medias on Sunday in response to Hollande’s comments, Mr Jaitley, citing Mr Hollande's initial claim to a French website that "Reliance Defence partnership with Dassault Aviation was entered at the suggestion of the Indian Government" and his subsequent statement to a foreign news agency that "he is not aware if government ever lobbied for Reliance Defence", said,’’Truth cannot have two versions."
