Phulwa's character in 'Babumoshai Bandookbaaz' was tailor made for me: Bidita Bag

By Sanya Pandey New Delhi, Aug 20 (UNI) Actress Bidita Bag, who will be soon seen opposite Nawazuddin Siddiqui in 'Babumoshai Bandookbaaz', has said replacing Chitrangda Singh was a good thing for her as the role of Phulwa in the film was tailor made for her. The actress, who was here in the national capital along with her co-star Nawazuddin Siddiqui, to promote the film, told UNI,"Replacing Chitrangda turned out to be a good thing for me as well as for the film. I think this role was meant for me and I have given 100 per cent. Even the director and the whole crew is happy with my performance." When asked to comment on reports that she insisted on taking multiple retakes for the intimate scenes, the actress said,"the body language of both the characters 'Babu' and 'Phulwa' was not coming accurately. I met Nawaz for the first time. I didn't even know him well. So Babu's body language and that of Phulwa were not coming out well. The script required a boldness and rawness in the scene. So , I insisted on taking retakes. ' About the recent racism row that was brought up by Nawazuddin on social media, Bidita supported him saying 'Nawazuddin is a great actor. He shouldn't be judged on the basis of his skin tone. I have endorsed many fairness brands but after that, I realised that what I had done was not right because most people in our country have a brown skin tone.A wrong idea is being sold to them and they are becoming the victims of inferiority complex, which is very bad. 'What Nawazuddin is doing today, a lot of people with white skin tone are unable to achieve. Skin tone is not a parameter for an actor. To get into the skin of the character is more important, rather than the skintone.' On her experience of working with the actor, the actress said,'Nawazuddin is a very sweet and grounded person and the experience of working with him is very nice. ' On her future projects, the actress said that she has signed three films which are more realistic. "One is a children's film, the other is a biopic on social activist Daya Bai and then there is a gangster film," Bidita said. As an actor she said content is very important for her. An action thriller, 'Babumoshai Bandookbaaz' has been directed by Kushan Nandy and produced by Kiran Shyam Shroff and Ashmith Kunder. The film features Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Bidita Bag in the lead roles. Nawazuddin plays the role of a sharp shooter Babu. The flick is slated to release on August 25. UNI PY AE
