New Delhi, Nov 20 (UNI) The PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Monday launched The Ambassadors’ Club to promote expansion and diversification of trade and economic cooperation between India and other countries.
The new initiative at the Chamber is intended to be an open-ended discussion forum based in New Delhi, the launch of which took place with Foreign Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs, Dr S Jaishankar addressing it through video conferencing mode.
In a statement here, Senior Vice-President, PHD Chamber, Rajeev Talwar said that the idea is to have an institutional arrangement to facilitate understanding of markets and opportunities by utilising insights, expertise and local knowledge of foreign diplomats as well as retired Indian diplomats and facilitating regular, focused networking between them and all business community especially in the MSME segment.
He informed that the objective of the Ambassadors’ Club is to address untapped potential for expanding trade and investment opportunities by utilizing insights, expertise and local knowledge of foreign diplomats as well as retired and serving Indian diplomats, interacting with business entities under one roof.
The Sr Vice-President stated that this would create an informal “Think Tank” for the business communities and an open-ended mechanism for focused interaction with key Embassies and their governments as well as identify new technologies, approaches, and partnership arrangements relevant to India’s ambitious economic journey.
The convenor of The Ambassadors’ Club would be former Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs and Ambassador, Krishna V Rajan who said, “the club would assist modernisation and expansion of India’s small and medium scale sector, facilitate visits by business delegations to selected countries and contribute to greater effectiveness of visits by business delegations to other countries and thereby increase businesses between small and medium enterprises in both the countries.”
