PFDA seizes 55.34 quintal sub standard fruits & vegetables during statewide drive

Chandigarh, Aug 13 (UNI) With the commitment to provide rich quality fruits and vegetables free from all type of pesticides, Punjab Food and Drug Administration (PFDA) carried out checking drive into Mandis throughout the state.
Stating this here on Thursday, Punjab Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Kahan Singh Pannu informed that the special checking drive has conducted in 74 fruits and vegetables. Special checking teams have constituted for this operation on district and secretary market committee level throughout the state.
He said that focus has been given on fruits ripened with unscientific method and vegetables not fit for human consumption during the drive. However polythene bags have been recovered, which were seized on the spot. Checking teams also took initiative to aware the farmers about the ill effects of this evil during the drive and issued show cause notices to Arthiyas for usage of polythene. He said that 55.34 quintal fruits and vegetables, which were not been able to edible, were destroyed on the spot.
