Petition against extension of UP CS Alok Ranjan dismissed by High Court

Lucknow, Jun 3(UNI) Lucknow, bench of the Allahabad High Court today dismissed a petition challenging the three month extension of service to UP Chief Secretary Alok Ranjan.
The bench comprising of Justices Sudhir Agarwal and Rakesh Agarwal dismissed the plea after hearing petitioner Nutun Thakur's counsel Asok Pande, the state government’s Advocate General Vijay Bahadur Singh and Central Government Additional Solicitor General Surya Bhan Pandey, mainly on the ground of maintainability. The court said it is the government’s prerogative to appoint anyone as the Chief Secretary and the petition cannot be heard in absence of any affected party.
Ms Thakur had said in the petition that many cases were registered by CBI against Mr Ranjan as MD of NAFED, of which some are still pending, hence his service extension was improper.
