PETA appeals to President not to pass Jallikattu ordinance

Chennai, Jan 13(UNI) Animal welfare prtanisation PETA, which is opposed to conduct of Jallikattu-Taming of Bull, adventure sport in Tamil Nadu during Pongal festival today urged President of India not to pass ordinance allowing the sport..
: PETA's appeal to President came in the wake of Supreme Court again refusing to vacate the stay on the centre's notification allowing Jallikattu. PETA's request came in the backdrop of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa's request to the Centre to disseminate an ordinance allowing Jallikattu. "Only a small, pitiful man derives pleasure from hurting those more vulnerable than him, whether the victims are animals, children, or women. Bullies are cowards who pick on those who can't defend themselves and escape. We are relieved that bulls will continue to remain protected from jallikattu and bull race abuse, for now", PETA India CEO Poorva Joshipura said in his appeal to the President. The Court had on Tuesday stayed the January 7 notification which was issued despite a Supreme Court judgement that categorically held such events cannot be allowed. This means events such as jallikattu and bull races still cannot currently be held.
