PEP blames political leadership for Punjab floods

Chandigarh, Aug 19 (UNI) The Punjab Ekta Party (PEP) on Monday blamed the political leadership for the devastating floods in the state and expressed deep sorrow over the sufferings of thousands of people in Punjab, who were marooned by the flood waters.
In a statement here, PEP president Sukhpal Singh Khaira said that fresh flood in Satluj and Ravi rivers was a man-made calamity. This reflects the failure of both the present and previous governments in taming the rivers, as well as allowing land and mining mafias to grab the river beds and do illegal mining there, he alleged.
He said both the Captain government and the previous Parkash Singh Badal government, were main culprits for the present situation.
